Frequently Asked Questions

The journey to become a pilot is both exciting and demanding. Here are answers to the 50 most common questions prospective pilots often ask me:

“Regulatory and Testing Questions”

What happens if I fail a test or checkride? Can I retake it?

Failing the written test isn’t a big deal. If it happens, we’ll review the areas you struggled with, make sure you’ve mastered the material, and you can retake it as soon as you’re ready.

However, failing a checkride is a bit different. Yes, you can retake it, and you’ll only need to redo the parts you didn’t pass or didn’t get to. But checkride failures can have long-term consequences, especially if you’re planning on pursuing aviation as a career.

Here’s why: when hiring managers review your resume, they’ll see your checkride history. If you and another candidate have similar qualifications, but you have several checkride failures, it could make a difference in how they evaluate you.

That’s why preparation is so important. My goal is to make sure you’re fully ready before we schedule your checkride. We’ll work through every maneuver and scenario until you feel confident and comfortable with the material. The more prepared you are, the smoother your checkride will go—and the better your future prospects as a pilot will look.
